Tarquin's Cornish Crocus Gin - 70cl - 42% ABV
Tarquin Leadbetter, creator of the eponymous Cornish gin, has been busily expanding his range over the past couple of years. In 2016 alone he treated fans of Southwestern Distillery to several new releases, including the Seadog, the Nomadic, the Hopster, the Tonquin and the Crocus.
The fluo yellow hue isn’t an Instagram filter! That’s just the gin… As with all Tarquin expressions, there’s a healthy dose of juniper, although it’s muted somewhat by bright floral roses, which camp out above the liquid to create a heady, hay-like mix
Juniper and spice lead the taste, yanking Cornish Crocus Gin back from an overtly perfumed place. There’s a healthy flush of citrus, and a pronounced spice on the finish, with saffron stepping in to bring a strangely savoury, pilau rice taste.
Serve with Elderflower Tonic and go nuts – literally – with a dusting of crushed pistachios.
