Lillet Rouge - 75cl - 17% ABV
Made from a blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot grapes, Lillet Rouge is fortified with lemon and orange brandies and infused with quinine and other botanicals.
It was first introduced in 1962 by Pierre Lillet and followed in the footsteps of its predecessor, Lillet Blanc, which had become, even by that pint one of the most famous brands aperitifs in the world due to celebrity endorsements (E.G. Ian Fleming, whose James Bond famously enjoyed it shaken in a Vesper Martini)
Lillet Rouge has notes of very ripe dark fruits on the nose, with a powerful bouquet of fresh orange, ripe berries, vanilla and delicate spices with a robust structure on the palate.
NEGRONI ADVICE -
The ripe fruit, vanilla and cherry hit are what define Lillet Rouge for us, meaning that any Negroni pairings should keep this in mind. We think it suits particularly citrus forward or even citrus flavoured (post infusion) gins, especially those with huge swathes of grapefruit or orange.
