Copperhead Gin - 50cl - 40% ABV
Long before Gin tumbled down the rabbit hole and ended up in Wonderland, Copperhead was already embracing the strange. With its beautiful, strikingly bold shiny copper bottle and its obsession with ancient alchemy, the Belgian gin was garnering attention for its slightly off kilter branding.
Still, as enticing as the story of old Mr Copperhead was, the botanical line-up ensured that this was a gin that spoke to Gin fans specifically. Juniper, cardamom, orange peel, angelica and coriander are the quintet behind it, yet despite the fact that they are commonplace, everyday ingredients, there’s something about the flavour here that still stands out.
The citrus is plentiful and candied, with the orange somehow tasting both fresh and caramelised. It’s sweet, oh so sweet, and while the cardamom adds a perfumed layer, the coriander and juniper work together to bring a herbal finish, with juniper staining the tongue a bright shade of blue. It’s great.
To serve: Try a rosemary sprig to bring the greenness in sooner.
