58 Clearly Sloe Gin - 50cl - 43% ABV
58 Gin began as a one-man-band operation, being distillied by skilled hands under a railway arch in Hackney. We wouldn’t go so far as to say that success has changed the brand, but its certainly helped it grow into a much bigger thing, with founder Mark Marmont and his extremely knowledgeable team running gin schools in East London.
The 58 Gin collection has grown, too, and while the releases are never outlandish, they’re never obvious, either. There’s always a strange twist…
58 Clearly Sloe Gin is, as the name suggests, a clear coloured take on a sloe gin, in which the berries have been distilled alongside the rest of the gin ingredients. The sloe is certainly downplayed, but definitely present, providing a strong, redcurrant hint that sits very beautifully with the vanilla already present in 58 Gin. It’s warming and earthy, with none of the tart notes that comes from infusing the berries, but all of the soft sweet fragrance.
To serve: Try it neat on ice, or with a splash of lemon tonic.
